Fall is coming…

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year.  Over the weekend I was out playing wiffle ball with my daughters and couldn’t believe how many trees were beginning to transition into their fall colors.  Autumn is not to officially start until September 23.  I am hoping that we have an extended fall to make up for the short spring.

Well the school year is off and running.  Today I had the opportunity to sit in on a Humanities class and listen to students present about King Arthur’s life.  It was exciting to hear our students share their passion and knowledge about the content.  One group event created a visual timeline using three dimensional pictures.  Congratulations to Monica Young and Peter Raatz for the quality the students had in their wonderful presentations.

Just a friendly reminder to students and Parents, Ohio Hi-Point main campus high school will be dismissing students at 12:30 pm on Thursday September 15, 2011.  This is necessary for professional development.

Have a great week,

Mr. Joel Staudter

A Sad Day for Many Ohio Hi-Point Students

As school is winding down we have many students express sadness because today is laptop computer collection day.  It is amazing how a device, new to this world in 1976, has impacted so many aspects of our lives.  This is a sign; summer vacation for our students is finally here.  I would like to leave our students with some parting suggestions for keeping their minds in academic mode throughout the summer.  First, READ!  Put down that remote or mouse and pick up a good book or reading device.  Second, practice good personal finance.  There is never a better time than the present to analyze needs and wants.  Practice setting up a general budget and subtract your spending against it every week.  This will pay off for life after Ohio Hi-Point.  Finally, exercise and eat right.  A healthy body allows optimum performance.  Have fun, be safe, and we look forward to seeing our returning and new students this fall!

Have a great summer,

Mr. Joel Staudter

Communication in the fast lane

As we progress though life we sometimes get so busy with the current that we forget to reflect on the past.  Over that last couple of weeks I have explored student communication at our career center.  Today students use text messaging, emailing, blogging, and social networking pages.  Twenty years ago we were still using hand… Read full post »

What determines your character?

What determines your character?  A wise man once communicated, “Character is defined by the actions you take when no one is watching”.  Over the last week I have witnessed behaviors that I feel will impact the character of our current students.  Students are coming to Ohio Hi-Point dressed to the industry standard, following established rules,… Read full post »

Motivation and Habit

Jim Ryun, a former runner and politician once said, “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”  Congratulations to our students, as your motivation brought you to our career-technical center.  Now it’s time Ohio Hi-Point students start building those habits. This is a special week at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center.  This… Read full post »

Students of Ohio Hi-Point, Start Your Engines!

If I had to title this week I would definitely name it “Roller Coaster.”   Although looking back I must have been riding the Ring Racer (135 mile per hour roller coaster in Nurburg, Germany).  This past week has been full of highs and lows.   Not to mention has flown by.  But today with the… Read full post »
