BELLEFONTAINE- With the school year almost complete, the Ohio Hi-Point Board of Education acknowledged the service of Ohio Hi-Point staff members during Wednesday evening’s regular scheduled board meeting.

Ohio Hi-Point Career Center annually recognizes staff for years of service on five-year intervals.

This year, 14 staff members will be recognized and include:

• -  Five years: Stacy Colwell, Laura Donnelly, Ryan Gilbert, Elizabeth Kennaw, Kristin Loy and Sharon Maurice.
• -  Ten years: Amy Main and Rodney Peterson
• -  Fifteen years include: Joan Harper, Terry Hedges, Jann McBrien and Tonya Ramirez.
• -  Twenty years: Melissa Sizemore
• -  Twenty-five years: Robin Curley

The Board of Education also congratulated Hillary Rader, a Professional Turf and Landscaping student from Bellefontaine High School, and Michael Pelfrey, a Building Maintenance student from Triad High School, as the May Students of Month.

The Board authorized a recall for Craig Bales’ employment contract. Last month, Bales’ position was reduced by ¼ time due to low enrollment, and since then a retirement has open a full-time position Bales was qualified to fill.

Resignations of three staff members were accepted by the Board and include: Eric Harman, Intervention Specialist, for the purpose of retirement; Sharon Maurice, Satellite Supply Chain Management Instructor, for personal reasons; and Amy Main, Adult Education Supervisor, for personal reasons.

Due to low enrollment, the Board approved to reduce the Building Maintenance position by ¼ time.

The career center’s convocation will take place at Ohio Hi-Point on Wednesday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at Bellefontaine High School. 

In other board action:

• -  Heard the Legislative report from Warren Stevens (Urbana)
• -  Approved the report of the treasurer including the April 2013 Financial Statement; interests and investments; and appropriation increases, decreases, transfers and advances
• -  Approved the treasurer’s five-year forecast that was presented during the May 15 Organizational Meeting
• -  Approved the donation of DitchWitch Trencher to the Ohio Department of Correction, and six air conditioning units to Kenton City Schools
• -  Approved the employment of certified and classified staff for one and two-year contracts as well as teacher supplemental contracts and extended days for adult and high school staff
• -  Approved the practical nursing insurance supplement stipend for approved staff members
• -  Approved the attendance of Ashley Thompson (Marysville Satellite Agriculture Instructor) to attend Student Leadership Training; Tom Carrig (Printng and Graphics Instructor) to attend     the Teacher Update/Printing and Graphic Communication Trade Show; and Donna Beale (Culinary Instructor) to accompany two students to the FCCLA National Conference.
• -  Approved a donation of a 1999 Honda Accord for use in the Auto Technology lab from David Rogers of Marysville; and a 2003 Ford Escape 4WD for use in the Auto Technology lab from       Ron Borgerding of Huntsville
• -  Approved the resolution for early release days for 2013/2014 school year
• -  Approved 2013/2014 Adult Education salary schedule
• -  Approved the resolution adopting a calamity day alternative make up plan as presented

The next Board of Education meeting is Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Sloan Inn at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center.
