WASHINGTON, D.C.- Nutrients for Life Foundation announced Ohio Hi-Point Career Center’s FFA satellite chapter at Kenton High School as the first place winner of a $5,000 grant in the “Helping Communities Grow” program during the Ohio FFA Convention in Columbus earlier this month.

FFA members utilized the Foundation’s Nourishing the Planet in the 21^st Century curriculum to educate students’ school and community about soil science. The “Helping Communities Grow” program encouraged FFA students to teach others about the importance of fertilizer and the role that it plays in providing a safe and nourishing food supply and keeping the earth green.

Morgan Latham, Ohio Hi-Point Kenton FFA Member, responded to receiving first place saying, “We would like to thank everyone in the community for helping us achieve the grant. Also a special thanks to the Nutrients for Life Foundation for giving us the opportunity to help us grow our community.”

The OHP Kenton FFA chapter spread the message of nourishing the world to over 500 elementary, junior high and high school students using newspaper, radio and hands-on science lessons. Other activities included a trip to the chapter’s land lab and the local farm museum. The FFA students also installed raised garden beds at a local homeless shelter.

Shelby Brammell, OHP Kenton FFA Advisor, commented on her chapter’s involvement in the Helping Communities Grow program, “It has been exciting to see our community grow through the Nutrients for Life Foundation grant. The students created a plan, worked with community partners to develop a way to serve our community, and followed through with many different projects to benefit Hardin County.”

The chapter has already invested funds from the $5,000.00 grant back into the community as students recently hosted a Third Grade Ag Awareness Event to over two hundred people.

The Ridgemont FFA Chapter won the second place award of $3,000 and the Peebles FFA Chapter won $1,000 for third place.
