Ohio Hi-Point honors class of 2013 at convocation ceremony

BELLEFONTAINE- The Ohio Hi-Point Career Center honored 242 high school seniors during the annual convocation ceremonies Wednesday evening.

The ceremony, which celebrates students who completed the career-technical programs from OHP’s 14 partner school districts, was held at the Bellefontaine campus just below Campbell Hill.

“Dream big,” remarked Superintendent Jeff Price, “write down your goals, verbalize your action plan, have a dedication to that dream, and whatever you aspire to be will come to pass.”

The ceremony was led by OHP’s students of the month. Audrey Foster (Animal Management) from Mechanicsburg High School, and Michael White (Electronics Engineering) from Kenton High School conducted the ceremony with the introduction of guests.

The student speakers for convocation were David (DJ) Patterson (Health Technology) from West Liberty-Salem High School; Jo’Dawn Parisse (Culinary Arts) from Graham High School; and Colton Low (Electronics Engineering) from Bellefontaine High School.

Low addressed the crowd in his speech saying, “We have all the skills and opportunities to make a difference in this world. With hard work and the application of the knowledge we’ve gained at Hi-Point, we will be successful.”

Superintendent Jeff Price; Shelly Swaney, high school director; and Lynda Arehart and Lynne Hall, guidance counselors, also spoke during the ceremony. Lou Vito, president of WPKO/WBLL in Bellefontaine, announced the names of each student to receive senior certificates from career-technical instructors.

Audrey Foster, an Animal Management student from Mechanicsburg High School, received the Best of Class Award, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.

The night held numerous inspiring moments, but none as powerful as a standing ovation for the graduating students who will be entering the military.

Ohio Hi-Point Taste of the Future Raises nearly $1,000 for scholarships

Ohio Hi-Point welcomed over 500 people to the Career Center’s 5th Annual Taste of the Future yesterday evening at OHP’s main campus in Bellefontaine and raised nearly $1,000 for student scholarships.

Eleven colleges and eight restaurants were featured in addition to OHP’s 20 program labs.

Funds that were raised from tasting tickets used to sample restaurant menu items directly benefited the scholarship fund. Restaurants that offered menu samples were Sweet Aromas Coffee, Donatos, Whitmore House, Sloan Inn, Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, Chattan Loch, Jolene’s Cozy Café and Black Tie Café.

Colleges that participated were Clark State Community College, ITT Technical Institute, Hocking College, OSU Lima, Rhodes State Community College, Columbus State Community College, Urbana University, WyoTech, Owens Community College, Ohio Technical College and Power Sport Institute.

Other vendors included some of OHP’s Satellite programs such as the student-run e-store, an OHP clothing and accessory store that is run by current Supply Chain Management students in Urbana, Aviation at Grimes Airfield and Teaching Professions in Marysville. Profits from the e-store also directly benefit the scholarship fund.

Hi-Point showcased main campus programs while also providing information about Adult Education, Customized Training for Businesses, ABLE and G.E.D.

Jason Kish Photography took photos for the evening while WPKO provided an on-site broadcast of the event.
