A full house at the Holland Theatre took part in honoring 53 Adult and Continuing Education students as they earned certificates from their respected programs during Tuesday evening’s graduation ceremony.

The ceremony began with a moment of silence for the victims of the recent shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.

Ohio Hi-Point Career Center Superintendent, Jeff Price, welcomed family and friends and posed the question “how will you use the education you’ve gained to make the world a better place?” to the graduates.

OHP Board President, Anne Reames, also added her congratulations and encouraged the graduates to be life-long learners, and former Ohio Hi-Point Superintendent, Nancy J. Knight stressed for the graduates to keep promises and have passion for the fields they’ve chosen.

The Ohio Hi-Point Alumni and Friends Association ended the night by naming Rebecca Faville, Practical Nursing graduate, as the recipient of the Alumni and Friends scholarship in the amount of $250.

Adult Education’s Winter Orientation begins January 3, 4 and 7 of 2013 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ohio Hi-Point’s Main Campus in Bellefontaine. Courses available include Practical Nursing at OHP’s South Campus in Urbana, Psychiatric Aide at North Campus in Kenton and a Medical Assisting Program in Marysville.

Classes for the ABLE G.E.D. courses begin February 4, 2013. ABLE coordinator, Sharon Halter, encourages those without a high school credential to take advantage of the resources available to earn a G.E.D. before the 2014 changes take effect, including an increase in price and a change to a computer-based test.
